24th & 25th - Coronavirus update

Supporting the self-employed

Today, I asked the Prime Minister for assurances that the Government will introduce measures to support the self-employed. I was pleased to hear that measures will be announced soon to give people certainty. You can watch my question here.

During tonight's press conference, the Prime Minister once again reiterated that the UK will hear from the Chancellor tomorrow.

NHS volunteers

Yesterday, the Health Secretary laid out a new mechanism for people to volunteer in our community, to support to health service and the amazing staff to deal with Coronavirus. A massive 405,000 people have responded so far, which is fantastic. Volunteering could mean supporting vulnerable people with a bit of shopping, delivering medical supplies or helping people to avoid loneliness during isolation. If you can help, sign up here

Coronavirus Information

The Government has launched a free Coronavirus Information service on WhatsApp. To use this, simply add 07860 064422 in your phone contacts and then message the word 'hi' in a WhatsApp message to get started.

Vehicle MOT

I welcomed the news from the Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, that he will be granting an MOT temporary exemption so that if your MOT is due from 30th March 2020 you will automatically receive a six-month extension. However, you must keep your car in a roadworthy condition and garages will remain open if you need repairs.
