Ben Bradley, the Member of Parliament for Mansfield and Warsop has written to Mansfield District Council to ask what the Council will do to prevent travellers setting up large camps in and around the constituency of Mansfield.
There have been a number of traveller’s camp set up in Mansfield, previously in the Quarry estate and now in the Bellamy area.
Discussing the issue, Ben said “Recently we’ve had an issue with travellers setting up camp in Mansfield, particularly with litter and vandalism. I’ve had a lot of constituents contact my office to raise their concerns, so I’ve contacted the Council to ask what they will be doing to prevent this from happening in the future. It’s not on that you have residents feeling threatened in their own neighbour, so I want to see the Council take some strong action.”
“Nationally speaking, the government is actually looking at how we can strengthen laws around trespassing, and how we can help protect people’s property from travellers moving in.”
