Earlier this week, I spoke to the Youth Sport Trust about the importance of sport in schools. I believe that we should focus on helping our kids to be healthy and well-rounded people, rather than just focussing on the academic stuff.
It was great to hear about their new 6-point plan for PE and School Sport, which is to:
Commit to a long-term, joined up School Sport & Physical Activity Action Plan
Promote a national goal of 7 active hours per week/60 active minutes a day
Invest in a national network of locally deployed school sport organisers
Transform the Physical Education curriculum to focus on physical literacy, healthy weight, mental health, and character
Extend after-school sport
Targeted interventions for the least active
I want every child in Mansfield and Warsop to have the opportunity to take part in sport and physical activities at all levels. Over the coming year, I will work in Parliament and locally to promote the importance of physical activity, and to support access to sports facilities and for after-school activities across the area.
I will be raising their 6-point plan with Government!
