This week I've shared full details of the Government's Future High Streets fund with Mansfield District Council so that they can apply for funding to improve and regenerate our town centres.
I spent much of last year talking to Ministers about the challenges we face locally. Our campaign was successful as in the autumn Budget a £675m pot was made available for high streets in areas like Mansfield to aid councils in delivering their local plans.
I've been constantly pushing MDC to get this plan together and make it available. Now is the time when it needs to come forward if we are to be able to access the multi-million pounds worth of support from Government.
The Future High Streets Fund is an essential part of the Government's Plan for the High Street, providing co-funding towards capital projects that bring transformative change. The Government wants to see the regeneration of our town centres through innovative proposals around transport, housing delivery and our public services.
The Fund will operate as a two-stage application process. Applications for Phase 1 call for local authorities to submit Expressions of Interest setting out their challenges and strategic approach to regenerating their town centres. These will then be assessed with an announcement about Phase 2 in the summer.
