Follow-up from my Sky News Interview

February 17, 2019

In my last post, I had not yet made up my mind about the motion relating to Brexit.

The key point was that Parliament had votes on a non-binding motion that does not affect the PM's strategy or the way forward one bit. As I said previously, it was a box ticking exercise to meet obligations to Parliament, and despite being defeated the PM will simply go back to Brussels next week to try and deal with the backstop issue, the same as if she'd won.

I explained in my interview the difficulties in coming to a conclusion on the motion. In the end I supported the Government because I simply felt that the non-binding nature of today's votes just wasn't worth falling out about, particularly with the reassurances that the Brexit Secretary gave me in the chamber. Needless to say I will not support any new deal that doesn't fix the problems I've raised.
