There have been a number of positive announcements recently, which I have shared over on Facebook, but I thought it would be useful to also share them all here.

  • The Counter-Terrorism & Border Security Act became law on 12th February. It will keep us safer by:

- Giving police new powers to investigate hostile state activity.

- Strengthening tools to tackle the threat of foreign fighters.

- Increasing sentences for those involved in terrorism.

  • Schools across Nottinghamshire will benefit from a £7m investment to improve facilities, including for Northfield and Farmilo primary schools. Read more at Nottinghamshire County Council.

  • The Government's Rapid Rehousing Pathway has been extended to a further 42 areas, which is a £7.2m investment in three different elements:

  1. Navigators are specialists assigned to rough sleepers, acting as a single point of contact to support people into settled accommodation, helping them access appropriate local services and sustain a safe life aware from the streets.

  2. Local Lettings Agencies work to source, identify, or provide homes and advice for rough sleepers or those at risk, supporting them into affordable, settled accommodation.

  3. Supported Lettings support individuals with a history of rough sleeping to help them to sustain their tenancies.

Local areas will be able to connect people with the right support and sustainable housing to move them swiftly away from the street and facilitate their journey to recovery, bringing us a step closer to ending rough sleeping for good. Another step in the right direction..

  • The Chad had some really positive coverage of the work Forest Town Primary School have been doing to support their most vulnerable students in their nurture group. Read here

  • Also on Mansfield Chad, I wrote a column continuing to share the great news of a £5m investment in proactive lung health screenings across Mansfield and Ashfield. It's something I've been campaigning for since I was elected, and great to see this investment in Mansfield's health!

  • Penny Mordaunt, Secretary of State, has announced a fund of £500,000, as part of the Returners Fund, to support organisations on helping women back into the workplace, and particularly to return to work after time out caring for children or family. If you know of organisations who might benefit, have a look here.
