As a former mining community, lung health is a real priority in Mansfield and Warsop, so I'm pleased to be supporting the British Lung Foundation during Love Your Lungs Week. The British Lung Foundation is campaigning to raise awareness of breathlessness so people will seek help for symptoms sooner.
The British Lung Foundation has created an online Breath Test, which has been taken by over half a million people, to help individuals find out more about their breathlessness and see if it's time to see a doctor. With 10,000 people getting a new diagnosis of lung disease every week, it's even more important to get checked if you have concerns as early and accurate diagnosis is critical.
I hope that anyone living in Mansfield and Warsop who is worried about feeling breathless will take the British Lung Foundation's test at this blf.org.uk/breathtest
Love Your Lungs Week is a brilliant opportunity to raise awareness of lung health. Alongside Mark Spencer MP, I’ve consistently campaigned to improve lung screening in Nottinghamshire. The campaign has been a real success so far. In February it was announced that NHS England selected Mansfield and Ashfield CCG to be one of the first areas to receive Targeted Lung Health Checks. These checks will help over 46,000 people aged 55-74 locally.
This follows on from a roundtable that I held with the Government and lung health experts and a follow up local lung health roundtable where I continued to lobby for better screening programmes in Nottinghamshire for lung diseases.
I also support the Taskforce for Lung Health’s new five year plan to transform care and treatment for people living with a lung condition. The plan will transform the care and treatment of people with lung disease by covering all areas of lung health, from prevention right through to end of life care. This would really benefit my constituents across Mansfield and Warsop.
We all get breathless from time to time, but sometimes it can be a sign of something more serious. The British Lung Foundation's online breath test is really short and could encourage someone to seek help from a doctor much sooner. It's worth giving it a go here!
