It was fantastic to see so many people in town at the weekend in support of Armed Forces Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 34,750 people working in our Armed Forces and crucial defence jobs across the East Midlands.
This was the eleventh Armed Forces Day, and it presents an opportunity to say thank you to our servicemen and women here and around the world. It is a chance to recognise the great sacrifice they have made for their country, including often spending long periods of time away from home.
The Conservatives remain committed to meeting the NATO target to spend 2% of GDP on defence, upholding our position as a global world leader in defence.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of those across Nottinghamshire who are in the regular service, the reserves, the cadets and our brave veterans. The sacrifices that they make for our Country must never be forgotten. Having worked with veterans charity Care after Combat, I know only too well how important it is to ensure that our veterans receive the support that they need once they leave the armed forces.
Mansfield is a proud and patriotic part of the world with a huge amount of respect for our forces. Armed Forces Day is a great opportunity to learn, to engage and to say thank you to all those that serve!
